Financial planning resources
Choose a tool by the question it helps you examine. FIRE Tools Kit links to external public-agency materials and explains their scope; the calculators and worksheets below are operated by their named providers.
For an income, spending, or bill-timing question
The CFPB’s Your Money, Your Goals toolkit offers individual worksheets such as spending trackers and cash-flow budgets. These can help organize inputs before you compare a savings scenario.
For a savings or compounding scenario
Investor.gov’s financial tools and calculators include savings-goal and compound-interest tools. Investor.gov is an investor education website of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
A short tool-evaluation checklist
Before relying on an output, identify the provider, the purpose of the tool, the inputs it requests, and the assumptions it uses. Check units and the time period. Note which costs or uncertainties the example does not address.
Changing an input can be useful for understanding a scenario. It does not make a projected return a forecast or establish a personal recommendation.
